Day 39 – Feel the Steel: This handsome chap is called Satchel, and he plays guitar in the amazing band Steel Panther. I interviewed him this evening for The Daily Dust before his band opened up for classic rock legends ZZ Top at Wolverhampton Civic Hall. Death to all but metal!

Day 28 – Celebrate Good Times: Tonight we went out for a meal to celebrate my being offered a job with Solihull Council. Ellie and I and clearly in sync with each other, because even though we got dressed in completely different towns, we still managed to wear matching jumpers!

Day 25 – Beatdowns in Birmingham: Hell yeah! This is Mike Hranica, vocalist with The Devil Wears Prada, and I interviewed him before his band supported Enter Shikari at the Birmingham Academy tonight, a show I was covering for The Daily Dust. TDWP are an awesome live band, with beatdowns galore – if you don’t know what a beatdown is, just know that they’re phenomenal! If you have any interest in heavy rock/metal, find some live footage of TDWP to watch, you’ll love it! Mike was also a great guy to interview – he was genuine (a lot like Matthew from Madina Lake) and was not afraid to take the time to ponder my sometimes tough questions (how long would it take you to tell me the best song ever??), and he even said afterwards that it was one of his favourite interviews he’d done recently 😀

Day 22 – Like a Shooting Star: This evening I headed down to the brand new Birmingham Academy to photograph and review Black Stone Cherry’s show for Birmingham Live and The Daily Dust. Support came Duff McKagan’s Loaded and The Parlor Mob. I also interviewed members of all three bands, including John-Fred from BSC. This was third time I’d met him and he remembered me straight away, which was really awesome and made chatting much easier. It was also the third time I’d interviewed Duff, and he remembered me as well, also tres cool!

Day 13 – Start as you mean to go on: October is looking like a good month already! Today has been very positive and has made me very excited about the next few weeks. I finally received my wireless flash trigger, so should be able to get very creative with my lighting soon, I’ve got a confirmed slot on the guestlist with a photo pass for my first gig in ages tomorrow – the pop punk upstarts All Time Low – and, I got offered that job that I interviewed for on Tuesday! To top it all there was also a great sunset which, as you can clearly see, is today’s pic. I’ve got another interview tomorrow and at least one great gig to go to and photograph next week as well, so if October continues in this way I will be one very happy camper!

Day 12 – Creepy Crawly: Over the past few days at my house, loads of these spiders have been appearing all over the place, both in the garden and in the house. This one had set up base in our front window and it distracted me for a while from my preparations for this Friday’s job interview. Just after I’d taken this shot, a small fly landed on its web and, quick as a flash, the spider sped to the fly, devoured it, then moved back to the same position as in this photograph. Deadly!

Day 11 – Gizza Job: I’m currently unemployed and, I won’t lie to you, it sucks. I really want to forge a career as a journalist, but that is pretty difficult in the West Midlands at the moment as most of the local papers are going down the pan. So, I’ve been applying for a number of jobs and by the end of this week I’ll have had three interviews in seven days. Today was the middle one, for an admin type job with the charity Action For Children, and I should find out if I’ve been successful or not by the end of the week. Fingers crossed!
